Cow and Soybean Farmer Math

In an effort to make math more interesting for kids and to make my kids understand that math really is important, I have started a series of Farmer Math questions to go along with the Flat Aggie reports.  These are patterned after the blog Bedtime Math.  Some of the questions are easy enough for pre-schoolers and sometimes I come up with some to even challenge high school seniors.

These questions follow the report Flat Aggie Learns About Beans and Cows.  Additional educational materials can be found in the post All About     .

1.  Flat Aggie helped harvest 3 fields during the day and 2 fields after dark.  How many fields did she help harvest in all?

2.  When Flat Aggie finished harvesting after dark, she had harvest 25 acres of a 30 acre field.  How many acres were left to harvest the next day?  (Did you know an acre is about the size of a football field?

3.  Flat Aggie helped feed 125 calves.  If she fed 2 pounds of corn and soybean meal to each calf, how many pounds of feed did she feed in all?

4.  Flat Aggie went to the grocery store and bought 30 items.  If 70% of the items contain soy, how many items did Flat Aggie buy that contained soybeans?

5.  When Flat Aggie was riding in the combine, they were cutting 15 acres per hour.  How many hours did it take to harvest 75 acres?
